UBC SAILING CLUB / Tsunami News - January 31, 2012     Today is Your Last Chance for the Early Bird Price on the Sun Run! The Sun Run is an annual tradition with the UBC Sailing Club!   Doing the Sun Run with the UBC Sailing Club is the same price as doing it as an individual, except you get to run every week with the UBC Sailing running group, and a t-shirt with the club logo on it! These runs will be at a friendly pace that should be quite accessible and will slowly ramp up with time.  Please email AndrewNPorritt gmail.com if you plan to run so that I can notify you if the time changes or it is cancelled for any reason but in general we run rain or shine.      Volunteers Wanted Vancouver Boat Show February 8-12 We still have several openings for JSCA members to help crew the Jericho Sailing Centre Association's display booth at the Vancouver International Boat Show February 8-12 under the convertable roof at the newly refurbished BC Place Stadium. Members who volunteer for a two hour "watch" will gain free admission to the show and the admiration of thousands of show going seafarers from all over. A great place to meet people and shoot the breeze about the Jericho Sailing Centre and all of the low cost ocean access opportunities we provide. UBC SAILING CLUB / Tsunami News - January 6, 2012    Curling Social Night Friday January 13, 2012  7:30PM - 11PM Join the UBC Sailing Club for an exciting night of brooms, beer, and ice! On Friday, January 13th we'll be booking rinks at the <a href="http://www.marpolecurling.com/">Marpole Curling Club</a>. We get 2 hours of curling action, equipment rentals and a quick tutorial, all for around $25 (depending on numbers). We'll be on the ice from 9:00PM - 11:00PM but there is a great pub at the curling club so plan to get there around 7:30 to hang out and enjoy a few beverages before hitting the ice, Tournament of Hearts style. The AGM is where the club reviews the events from the year as well as elects executive members for the 2011-2012 season. Pizza will be provided! UBC SAILING CLUB / Tsunami News - September 15, 2011 CLUB REGISTRATION Student Registration at Clubs Days The club has met our quota of non-student members for the year; we will not be accepting any more associate or general members this season. But you're in luck if you're a student! Students can register for the club at any time. Find us (or tell your friends to find us) on AMS Clubs Days. Wednesday September 21st, Thursday September 22nd, Friday September 23rd 11am-3pm UBC Campus, SUB In order to ensure registration goes quickly and efficiently, please visit <a href="http://register.ubcsailing.org/">http://register.ubcsailing.org/</a> before coming to our registration days.  You will need to fill in the online registration form (new members) or update your registration information (returning members), as well as print out three waivers: • the Jericho Sailing Club waiver, • the AMS clubs waiver and, • the UBC Sailing club waiver. These can all be found on the registration website and should be brought with you to our registration days. UBC students require a valid UBC student card at the time of registration. Renew your Student Membership Until 2013 for Only $20!   Being a student can be tough on the wallet and we want to make it easier to stay a part of UBC Sailing. If you will be a UBC student throughout the 2011/2012 school year, your renewal fee is only $20 to sail until March 31, 2013. But hurry – this offer expires September 30, 2011.   As we are a volunteer run club, we'll have to charge you the usual $80 work deposit, (for a $100 total) but as always, members who complete their 8 work hours between April 1, 2012  and March 31, 2013 will be refunded their $80 deposit. (Work hours completed between now and March 31, 2012 count towards your current work deposit) – that's another year and a half of sailing for only $20!   There will be a chance to sign up on campus with office hours during Club Days (Sept. 21-23, 2011) in the SUB.  For more information, including office hours, check out <a href="http://www.ubcsailing.org">www.ubcsailing.org</a>.  This offer is available to any current UBC Sailing member that will be a UBC student throughout the 2011/12 school year. SOCIAL Play Ultimate This Fall   Join many other UBC Sailing Club members on our ultimate team. We play in the Vancouver Ultimate League, Sunday mornings from 10 AM to 1 PM, between Sept 11 and Nov 13. No experience necessary. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Run for the JSCA Board! UBC Sailing members who have a strong interest in the continued success of our home, the Jericho Sailing Centre Association, are encouraged to run for the JSCA Board of Directors. The 15-member Board meets monthly to set policy and shape Jericho's direction. UBC Sailing Club is Jericho's largest club and is currently represented by 2 members on the Board. At the JSCA AGM on Oct. 25, 8 Directors will be elected for a 2-year term. Interested members who can offer time and expertise are invited to submit a letter outlining their experience and interest to the JSCA Nominations Committee c/o the Jericho office before 1700H, Tuesday, October 11.
