ADDITIONAL SAILING/WINDSURF LESSONS - MAKE YOUR OWN!

If six (6) or more members arrange to have the same
availability for a weekday sailing or windsurf lesson
session, dinghy lessons coordinator Sarah Inouye will
attempt to schedule an additional session to accommodate
them (dependent on instructor availability).

To help coordinate we have set up a thread on our forum.
Just create an Ocean Addicts account on our website and log
in to the Ocean Addicts forum at:

RACE SEASON BEGINS!

Tuesday nights are race nights at Jericho! All summer long
the Jericho staff runs a great casual racing series, and
this year we want more UBC members on the start line.
Racing is fun for all skill levels and is a great way to
jump to the next level in your sailing. We suggest that you
show up at 5 PM to make the 6:15 PM water start.

RS-500s

On Tuesdays/Sundays when RS500s aren't in lessons, let's
get all four boats racing!  Just show up and find a partner
if you don't have one already. Upcoming dates are:

Tuesday, June 27: Meet at 5:15 PM; first start at 6:15 PM
Sunday, June 29: Meet at 11:30 AM; first start at 12:30 PM

MULTIHULL

If you are a multihull sailor and are interested in coming
down and getting on a boat, you can now book yourself as
crew using our new online booking system at:

http://ubccatbooking.appspot.com/

If you are an experienced multihull sailor (20 logged days
on Hobies/Nacras and passed Advanced II) and are interested
in racing and gaining access to our Nacra F18 with spinnaker
or Infusions, send multihullracing@ubcsailing.org an email
and Kaspar will pair you with a skipper to qualify.

MONOHULL

Monohull racing is intended to be low-key and fun. No
pre-booking or RSVPs are required, and hardly anyone pays
attention to the results unless they win! Just meet beside
the Vanguards at 5:30 PM this coming Tuesday (June 15th) to
rig up. You will be paired with a sailing partner (or you
can bring your own). There will be a quick talk/clinic to go
over some basic rules and tactics of racing before we launch
the boats. The first start is at 6:15 PM and races continue
until the wind quits.

The club has suspended classes on Tuesdays, meaning all
seven Vanguard 15's and five Lasers are available for
racing. Please email Kevin at monohull-racing@ubcsailing.org
if you have any further questions.

UBC SAILING CLUB - STORAGE CHANGES!

UBC Sailing has re-built the FJ sail storage area in the
club room. A most casual bystander may not realize that the
intent of the new system is to pass the loop through either
the clew or tack rings of the main sail itself and clip it
to the brass clip, then cinch the drawcord on the sail bag
around the attachment point before hauling the sails up.

This lets the sail hang straight, which is better for the
sailcloth and allows water to drain out from the wrapped
sail. If sails are hung by the drawcord on the sail bag,
they end up kinked and half lying on the floor, which is
less ideal.

Also, Anton reiterates his frequent pleas to spend the
extra few seconds when derigging to find the sailbag with
the same number as the sails being put away. It will save
the tireless dinghy exec and volunteers hours of searching
when a problem is reported about a specific sail number.

In addition, some Vanguard sailors cleverly stuff the sail
bag inside the foil bag when rigging, so both can be found
in one go. So please check the insides of your foil bags for
a sail bag when derigging, as sail bags can otherwise go
temporarily "missing" and that *really* throws the numbering
system for a loop...

VOLUNTEER E-MAIL LISTS - SIGN UP NOW!
    - New system for ad-hoc/regular volunteer hours

A lot of the work that we do on the club fleets can't be
planned in advance: these tasks are weather-dependent or
unexpected, and must be done right away to keep the club
running smoothly. If you are interested in helping out and
would like to be contacted about impromptu work, sign up for
either the monohull or windsurfing volunteer email lists.

Another option for working off your volunteer hours is
helping out with club facilities. This includes regularly
scheduled work to keep the club ship-shape, such as tidying
the boat yard, club rooms or fix-it room, which can be
easily accomplished in an hour or less before or after a
trip out on the water. If interested, please contact Heather
at facilities@ubcsailing.org.

ENGLISH BAY SAFETY SEMINAR - SIGN UP NOW!

The English Bay Safety Seminar was developed for users of
the Jericho Sailing Centre to help keep them safe at play on
the waters of English Bay. The seminar covers basic water
safety fundamentals along with user specific information
drawn from the logs of the Jericho Rescue Team who have
intervened in thousands of "sea disasters" over the past 36
years.

Why make your own mistakes when you can learn from the
mistakes of others? Don't challenge Darwin's theory, make
sure your water safety knowledge is the fittest it can be.
Your survival may well depend upon it. Find the missing
links and fill in the gaps in your water safety knowledge by
attending a FREE English Bay Safety Seminar on June 28 at 7 PM.

RSVP JSCA office.
