DINGHY FLEET NEWS
Proficiency Exams
The proficiency exam schedule is now online at
http://register.ubcsailing.org/lessons/schedule. If you will
be taking a proficiency exam this summer, please contact
Anton or Sarah (sailing-lessons@ubcsailing.org) to register
in one of the available sessions.
Rigging Reminder: Foil bags have internal pockets!
A quick note to all Laser/ Vanguard sailors: We lost a
couple of rudders recently because the spring clips
supposedly preventing them from falling off were bent out of
shape and failed to do their job. The clips will be replaced
in the next order of boat parts, but as an additional safety
measure hitch pins have been put through the pintles on these
boats. Please try not to lose these pins.
For the Lasers, the hitch pins will stay on the pintles,
which are on the rudder heads (on the Vanguard, the pintle
is on the hull.) This means it is even more IMPORTANT! than
ever to use the internal pockets in the foil bags to separate
the rudders from the daggerboards (there's one for the
tiller, too). Otherwise the pointy ends of the hitch pins
may scratch and damage the daggerboards.
Thank you all for your cooperation.

VOLUNTEER E-MAIL LISTS - SIGN UP NOW!
- New system for ad-hoc/regular volunteer hours
A lot of the work that we do on the club fleets can't be
planned in advance: these tasks are weather-dependent or
unexpected, and must be done right away to keep the club
running smoothly. If you are interested in helping out and
would like to be contacted about impromptu work, sign up for
either the monohull or windsurfing volunteer email lists.
Another option for working off your volunteer hours is
helping out with club facilities. This includes regularly
scheduled work to keep the club ship-shape, such as tidying
the boat yard, club rooms or fix-it room, which can be
easily accomplished in an hour or less before or after a
trip out on the water. If interested, please contact Heather
at facilities@ubcsailing.org.
How to sign up:

ENGLISH BAY SAFETY SEMINAR - SIGN UP NOW!
The English Bay Safety Seminar was developed for users of
the Jericho Sailing Centre to help keep them safe at play on
the waters of English Bay. The seminar covers basic water
safety fundamentals along with user specific information
drawn from the logs of the Jericho Rescue Team who have
intervened in thousands of "sea disasters" over the past 36
years.
Why make your own mistakes when you can learn from the
mistakes of others? Don't challenge Darwin's theory, make
sure your water safety knowledge is the fittest it can be.
Your survival may well depend upon it. Find the missing
links and fill in the gaps in your water safety knowledge by
attending a FREE English Bay Safety Seminar on June 7 & 28.
All times at 7 PM.
RSVP JSCA office.
