UPCOMING MONOHULL WORK PARTIES!
- Feb. 15-16; further dates TBA
In order to get the monohull fleet ready for the season,
we'll be running some work parties over the next few weeks.
There are two main jobs.
First, most of the foils need to be patched up. This can be
done in the comfort of the Sunset Room, but with all the
masts stored in there and the hangar full of Albatross,
party sizes will be limited to 4-6 people. We'll start next
Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 15-16) at 1830, with further dates
TBA. Sanding epoxy gets less fun after a couple of hours, so
lots of short sessions will work better than a single long
one. Plus the epoxy needs time to cure between sessions.
Wear work clothes; you *will* spill epoxy on them, and epoxy
does not come out. Ever.
Second, many of the hulls have minor gelcoat chips, and
since they're dismasted and upside down, now would be as
good a time as any to fill those in. This will have to
happen on a nice warm sunny day when the boats are dry and
the gelcoat will cure, so they'll be announced very much at
the last minute. Ditto work clothes.
If interested in either or both, e-mail
apitts@interchange.ubc.ca and I'll keep you posted.

2010 WINTER OLYMPICS AT JERICHO
The Galley will be open from 07h00 to 23h00 every day during
the Games, to members and general public alike. Grab a bite,
grab a beer and watch hot Olympic action on the 2 brand-new
huge high-definition televisions* in the Members Lounge and
the NE room. *(Paid for by the Olympic RV park operating in
Jericho's parking lot).

SAFE BOATING DURING THE OLYMPICS
There will be plenty of anti-terrorism police boats
patrolling the waters during the Games, so all kayakers and
boaters are warned to stay out of the "water exclusion
zones" (basically, don't go under any bridges - stay west).
