UBC SAILING CLUB’S NEW SEASON STARTS SOON!

With warm summer days approaching, UBC Sailing Club is gearing up for another great season. We are happy to announce our recent fleet expansions and improvements:

Get excited! It’s going to be another great year, both on and off the water!

New Members

You can sign up for UBC Sailing Club in 2 easy steps:

1) If you are new to the club and want to register for the 2010 season, click here: New Member Registration

Please complete the online portion of the registration prior to attending a registration day to speed up the process. If you’d like to take lessons, select your preferences via the registration system. Please note, this does not guarantee enrolment in a lesson. To confirm your lesson spot, you must pay for your lesson at a registration day. Please also complete 3 waivers (UBC Sailing, Jericho and UBC AMS Waivers) and bring them with you to the registration day to ensure efficient service.

2) Show up to a registration day.

We’ll collect waivers, payments, and give you a safety orientation. If you’ve signed up for a lesson online, this is when you pay for it and become officially enrolled. If you are already a proficient sailor, you can elect to take a proficiency exam. At this time, we only accept cash. Credit cards may be accepted – watch for updates!

Returning Members

If you are a previous UBC Sailing Club member and are already in the database, use your email & password to log in (top right corner).

The system will allow you to update your contact information, register for the 2010 season, and sign up for lessons.

You then need to attend a registration day to pay your dues, confirm your lesson spots and take your annual safety orientation (at the end of which you will receive your new key).

Limits on General and Associate Members

Due to AMS regulations, we are required to limit the number of general and associate members. In past years, this limit has been reached in early spring (i.e. mid-April). If you are not a current UBC student, please register and complete payment early to avoid disappointment. Since there is no limit to the number of current UBC student members, UBC students can join the club anytime!

Registration and Payment Dates

Registration for membership and lessons is only finalized upon receipt of payment by UBC Sailing Club. Please note, cash and/or credit card payments (pending AMS approval) are the only forms of payment we will accept. You must come in person to Jericho with payment to finalize your registration on one of the following dates:

Returning Members Night & Season Kick-Off Party: Friday, March 19th

UBC Student Campus Registration Dates: Only for current UBC students (bring your student ID)

General Registration Dates:

Safety & Orientation Session

Mandatory for returning members (every year) and for new members taking Proficiency Exams. You must attend a Safety Orientation before obtaining your 2010 key.

On weekend registration days, Safety Orientation takes place at 12 PM, after which time you will obtain your keys. On Returning Members Night, Safety Orientation is at 7:30 PM.

Payment Options * Important Information *

UBC Sailing Club accepts cash. UBC Sailing Club DOES NOT ACCEPT CHEQUES.

We are working on a method to accept credit cards at registration days, to assist those who forgot cash or were unaware of the policy. (There may be an additional fee for credit card service). We will update this page prior to March 19th with details.

Further Details About Credit Card Payments

Due to AMS policies, the only way for us to accept credit cards is to use a special online ‘virtual credit card terminal’ provided by an external company under contract with the AMS, where payments go directly to the AMS. A service fee is charged on every payment by this external company.

Due to this, we strongly prefer cash for all payments and want to inform members that any credit card payments, if possible, will have to be done through this ‘virtual credit card terminal’ at a registration day. The system does not swipe your card, but requires an exec to enter your card number online.

(What the heck is AMS? It’s the Alma Mater Society of UBC)
